The John F. Kennedy Space Center (KSC, originally known as the NASA Launch Operations Center), located on Merritt Island, Florida, is one of NASA's ten field centers and has been the primary launch site for human spaceflight since 1968. KSC managed launch operations for programs like Apollo, Skylab, and the Space Shuttle from Launch Complex 39. Adjacent to Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, the two facilities collaborate closely, sharing resources and infrastructure.
Spanning 144,000 acres, KSC features about 700 facilities, including the 525-foot Vehicle Assembly Building for stacking rockets, the Launch Control Center, astronaut dormitories, a Space Station factory, and the Shuttle Landing Facility. The Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex offers public access to exciting attractions, space artifacts, and behind-the-scenes tours. Located just 45 minutes from Orlando, it’s a must-see, full-day destination for space enthusiasts.
